Brechen wir aus!
A Polish Jew on the run in Tyrol. An autobiographical story of survival
As a teenager, Leokadia Justman survived the cruel persecution by the National Socialists in Poland. After escaping from the Warsaw ghetto, her mother took it upon herself to be deported to Treblinka in order to save her daughter's life. She and her father managed to escape to Tyrol. They lived there under false identities until they were betrayed to the Gestapo. After her father was murdered in the Reichenau camp, Leokadia escaped from prison with a friend and hid in Innsbruck. Supported by courageous people, she survived the last months of the war in the Lofer region. This autobiographical account, translated into German for the first time, provides a rare, authentic insight into life and survival as a Jewish woman in Tyrol during the Nazi era.
