Feldpiloten, Beobachteroffiziere und Ballonfahrer bis Ende 1918
Airmen from Tyrol and Vorarlberg in the k.u.k. Aviation troops: Volume 4
The fourth and final volume of this collective biographical work covers the last year of the war, 1918. At the turn of the year, the air war had finally arrived in Tyrol in full force. In February 1918, the provincial capital of Innsbruck was the target of the largest Italian air raid to date, which also claimed one civilian life. Cities in South Tyrol and Trentino in particular were regularly attacked by enemy bombers and the Tyrolean front became the scene of increasingly fierce air battles with the numerically far superior Italian enemy aircraft.
The sudden end of the war in November 1918 led to the chaotic disbanding of the Imperial and Royal Air Force. The sudden end of the war in November 1918 led to a chaotic disbanding of the Austro-Hungarian air forces, as evidenced by the dozens of aircraft left behind on North Tyrolean airfields. As in the previous three volumes, Volume 4 also contains short biographies of pilots, observation officers and balloonists in the service of the Imperial and Royal Air Force. Aviation Troops are rounded off with exciting articles and a chronicle of the air war events of 1918.
