How many works of art does the city own?
The documented beginnings of the art collection of the city of Innsbruck date back to 1953. The collection has a total of 5,000 inventoried works. Since then, the city of Innsbruck has continuously purchased works of art.
Who decides on art acquisitions in the city?
A changing, external jury of experts decides on art acquisitions.
Where can art purchases be viewed?
You can view the current purchases at the end of each calendar year in an exhibition at the Plattform 6020 gallery.

Einreichen können Sie Ihre Unterlagen über die Plattform: kultur-innsbruck.vemap.com. Die Einreichfrist läuft von 1. März bis 31. Juli 2025 - 17.00 Uhr.

Ab 2025 findet nur mehr eine Jurysitzung im Jahr statt und Einreichungen werden ausschließlich über die oben genannte Plattform angenommen.
Abgabefrist:
- 31. Juli - 17.00 Uhr (Achtung: Es gibt keine weiteren Termine im Jahr 2025.)
Who can apply?
Artists who:
- were born in Tyrol or
- live in Innsbruck and
- are permanently and creatively active in Innsbruck and
- are at least 18 years old.
If one or more works of art have been purchased from an artist, the City of Innsbruck can only purchase another work of art from the person concerned after five years.
Which documents are required?
The following documents in German and in PDF format are required for submission to kultur-innsbruck.vemap.com:
- Scan of the birth certificate or
- Scan of the current registration form from the year of submission if you were not born in Tyrol
- Portfolio with the following content:
- Short curriculum vitae of the applicant
- List of the works offered with representative illustrations/photos and the respective key data (size, technique, year, edition, price incl. framing and tax)
- Brief description of the works offered or of the artist's artistic work
NOTE: The submitted artworks must be available and deliverable by October 2025 at the latest.
Who decides on the award?
The works of art are selected by a two-member external jury of experts consisting of visual artists and representatives from the fields of art education, art theory or exhibitions. The jury members are replaced every three years.
