What is the difference between school day care and after-school care?

• School day care takes place directly in the primary, special or secondary school attended. Lunch is provided. Pedagogues provide learning and varied leisure time care. There are two forms of day care: the interleaved form (learning and leisure hours alternate throughout the day) and the separate form (classical lessons in the morning and day care in the afternoon). Attendance at school-based daycare is instructional time, so attendance is mandatory.
• The day care centers are independent of the schools. The care is not provided by teachers, but by after-school care teachers. In addition to lunch, learning and leisure activities are also on the agenda. There are both municipal and private after-school care centers.

In Innsbruck, there are 20 municipal elementary school, 9 secondary schools and 2 special schools that offer day care, as well as 9 municipal after-school care centers where school children are looked after in the afternoons. There are 2 forms of school day care:

• Interleaved form: All pupils in a class are at school for the whole day. Leisure activities and lessons alternate throughout the day. In this form, school is compulsory in the afternoons and the child remains at school in the afternoon. They cannot be looked after at home on individual days. Attendance is compulsory.
• Separate form: Lessons last until lunchtime. Pupils are supervised in the afternoon. It is possible for the child to only attend afternoon care on certain days of the week. On the registered days, attendance is compulsory until the end of care.

How long are the municipal after-school programs open?

The municipal after-school care centers are open from Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 18:00.

How much does childcare cost in the municipal after-school care centers?

For children who do not have their main residence in Innsbruck, the double rate will be charged.

Enrolment: How do I register my child for the municipal after-school care center?

At the beginning of the year, there are two weeks in which you can register your child for after-school care. You register your child in the after-school care center that he or she will attend the following fall. Dates will be published in good time on all channels of the City of Innsbruck.

Enrollment for the 2025/26 school year takes place from February 17 to 28, 2025 .

1. You make an appointment with the after-school care center that your child is to attend.
2. You come to the after-school care center with your child and all the necessary documents on the agreed date.
3. You register your child there.

Can I register my child for after-school care at a later date?

You can use the late registration form to register your child for after-school care even after the registration deadline. However, late registration is no guarantee of an after-school care place.

How is it decided who gets a discount?

In addition to the full tariff, there are drei reduced tariffs. The amount of the monthly net family income serves as the basis of assessment for the possible granting of one of the drei reduced tariffs. The income limits for the respective tariffs are fixed.

The following income is used to calculate the monthly net family income:

• Net income according to wage or salary slip (minus non-fixed allowances such as overtime pay, bonuses, Christmas bonus, etc.) or income tax assessment notice
• Incoming maintenance and alimony payments
• Emergency assistance
• Unemployment benefit
• Parental leave allowance
• Pension (incl. orphan's pension)
• Rent subsidy/housing subsidy
• Social assistance (according to notification)
• Income from renting and leasing

Special hardships can be deducted from the monthly net family income, such as

• Alimony payments to be paid
• Loan repayments (monthly repayments for housing procurement or renovation, but not personal loans for consumer goods)

The net family income does not include

• Family allowance
• Apprentice allowance
• Family bonus+
