Result of the jury meeting:

Six project applications were submitted as part of the gedenk_potenziale 2023 call for proposals, all of which were of a pleasingly high quality. After an in-depth review and discussion of the project outlines, the jury unanimously decided at its meeting on November 8, 2021 to support the "Pausenzeichen" project by Lucas Norer as part of gedenk_potenziale 2023.

The "Pausenzeichen" project is an artistic intervention that marks four sites of Nazi repression in Innsbruck and places them in relation to each other. These are the Gestapo office in Herrengasse 1, the "Sonne" police prison, the provincial court prison in Schmerlingstraße and the Gestapo camp in Reichenau. Four places which, in addition to their function in the context of Nazi terror, are united by an inadequate, insensitive or non-existent contextualization.
As part of a text and sound intervention based on original documents and testimonies on Nazi terror and a musical exchange of blows between Nazi radio and an English cover station, the places and events are artistically marked and their historical relevance addressed.

The jury was impressed by the clearly formulated and well-received project idea: "The intended examination of the 'crime scenes' - which are always also places of sacrifice - is not only in tune with the times, it has also been largely absent from the local and regional culture of remembrance. In this sense, the project can be expected to provide important impulses, especially as it is accessible to individuals as well as groups, schoolchildren, etc.", the jury's statement reads in full.

Result of the jury meeting:

The call for proposals for gedenk_potenziale 2022 met with a pleasingly broad and strong response. A total of twelve project applications were submitted, covering a diverse spectrum in terms of their approach and focus. On February 15, 2021, the five-member expert jury met to decide on the awarding of the 20,000 euro gedenk_potenziale 2022 prize.

The very stringent, clearly formulated and carefully conceived documentary film project " A memorial plaque for Diana Budisavljević" by political scientist and filmmaker Nicola Nagy won over the jury. Her documentary aims to show the productive potential of public controversies about a contemporary culture of remembrance from a transnational perspective, based on the creation of the memorial plaque for Diana Budisavljević, née Obexer (1891-1978) in Innsbruck. The multi-perspective approach of the documentary film and the clearly accentuated reference to the present are promising. For these reasons, the expert jury unanimously decided to support this project as part of gedenk_potenziale 2022.
